A case management company is here to help you. Our purpose is to be on your side. Fighting your corner, getting you what you need to restore independence following a traumatic injury. However, when someone contacts us looking for case management services, they often don’t know what to expect.
Sometimes people have a lot of questions. What is case management? Will a Case Manager take over and tell me what to do? They are worried about losing control at a time where they already feel disempowered. Sometimes people are bewildered and don’t have any questions. All of these feelings are perfectly normal.
Either way we are here to guide you, explain things and keep answering your questions until you understand and feel comfortable with what’s going on. Every case is different, but this blog answers some of the questions we are most frequently asked.
I don’t know what a case management company does…
When a lot of people contact us looking for a case management company, their first question is often: Why do I need a case manager?
Most people don’t know what a case management company does. And why would they? Unless you or a loved one have experienced a life changing injury, you will most likely never need to understand or access our case management services.

Will a case manager interfere, make decisions for me, or judge me and my family?
We aren’t here to pressure you into anything you don’t want to do. Our role is to support your rehabilitation journey and restore your quality of life. We know that’s not going to happen if you don’t trust us. Interfering or passing judgement is not the way to build trust.
We are an experienced team, and we understand what you and your family are going through. But we also know that every individual and every case is unique. That’s why we will never judge or try to take control from you. Our goal is to give you back control.

What if I don’t like the Case Manager’s recommendations?
The start of a rehabilitation journey following a life changing injury can feel disempowering. Particularly for individuals who were very independent or strong before their injury. We understand that needing to seek support and ask for help might feel challenging. But it’s important to remember that the purpose of case management is to restore long term independence where possible and to maximise quality of life.
Most importantly, our recommendations are based on conversations with you and your family. You are always part of the conversation. We work with an individual and their family, not against them.
For example, you might tell us that you will struggle to consistently apply yourself to a physiotherapy programme. So, we might look at different options for exercise and movement in the home. Or you might feel uncomfortable about seeing a psychologist. So, we’ll work with you to find the right support to address the challenges you are facing. Good support can make a huge difference and many clients are surprised by how quickly they see a difference with the right professionals involved. For example, we often find that just a few sessions with a psychologist can help with sleep problems or getting back to activities that are important to you, like driving a car to work or catching a bus to the shops.
Why should I listen to a case manager?
Every member of our case management team is a highly experienced clinical professional. Between us we have decades of experience in the health sector as qualified nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and physiotherapists. All of our Case Managers have specialist experience with complex case management.
Our two co-founders and directors are both registered nurses with over 30 years’ experience in healthcare. Plus, over a decade in complex case management and complex care support.
All this experience means we know how to navigate the way forward for you. And though we say so ourselves, we’re also really nice people who constantly look for creative solutions that our clients are comfortable with. The solution we recommend should work for you, as well as meeting the clinical requirements to optimise your recovery.
How long is the case management process going to take?
We promise to be honest and open with every individual and family we work with. And that starts with being realistic about the timescales involved. The case management process can take many months or even years. This varies depending on the complexity of the case, and every case is different.
We also promise to be by your side for as long as you need us. The case management process is very involved. While we try not to be intrusive, we often get to know our clients, their family, and their friends very well. We become a large part of a client’s life and we really value the incredible relationships we develop over time. Will I need care or other support at home? How long will I need it for?
Again, every case is different. But it’s not unusual to be worried about the need for care or therapy in the home. Invasion of your personal space is an understandable concern. However, if you do need care or therapy at home, always remember that the purpose is to restore independence and empower you.
We introduce clients to a wide range of professionals who are all here to help – sometimes in disciplines you might not be aware of. We also work hard to match our clients with the right therapists and carers. If you don’t feel that connection or rapport with someone, you are in control. We will listen to you, reassess and make any changes needed to get the right team for you.
How soon can I get back to work?
Getting back to work is a key milestone for many people. Work and career can be a fundamental part of regaining independence and restoring a sense of self. If your goal is to get back to work, we will do everything we can to make that happen.
Not only do we bring in other experts, such as vocational or occupational therapists, but we also advocate on your behalf. Liaising with employers, helping to manage a phased return if needed, negotiating for different hours or alternative ways of working. It could involve securing different equipment such as desks, chairs, or access requirements. Or we might help you to explore different career options if that’s what you want.
What if my family has questions for my Case Manager?
We aren’t just here for the individual who has experienced an injury. We are here for their whole family. More than one life is transformed by a traumatic injury and family members will have different questions and different needs.
We are here to help answer the questions a partner, husband or wife might have. For example, whether they can continue working. How can they manage work around supporting their loved one and attending important appointments?
While the client is at the heart of everything we do, we recognise the importance of involvement from other family members. Our role is to give them a voice too.
What if… I don’t have any questions?
A lot of people who contact us don’t have any questions. They are in shock and don’t know what to ask. What individuals want and need varies enormously depending on the nature of their case, as well as their circumstances before the injury. We are committed to every single case we work with and working in partnership with individuals and their families to achieve the best outcome possible.
