David has complex care requirements and he needs 24 hour support. His family told us…. For us, it’s vital that a case manager is always available, whenever you need them. They must have the right contacts and know where to go or who to turn to in order to get things done. A case manager should be friendly but professional and have the right kind of personality to get on well with the person whose care they are managing, however complex their needs. Ultimately, a case manager is a voice for someone who isn’t always able to articulate their own needs, so they must be able to treat that person as an individual and their wellbeing must be at the forefront of everything the case manager does.

I  really didn’t feel that we wanted or needed a case manager – how wrong I was!

She’s friendly, personable and always available when we need her – nothing phases her! David struggles with communication, but he gets on really well with Annabelle, who always takes the time to make sure his voice is heard. She puts his needs first and is kind and considerate towards him. David’s complex medical needs are sometimes difficult to understand, but because Annabelle has a medical background she’s perfectly placed to help explain situations and terminology to us. It also means she knows exactly who to approach within the system to get things done, and she never gives in!
